ManyAgents Help
ManyAgents is a Mac app that runs coding agents in tabs. Each tab is one agent in one folder.
Getting started
- Install the
claudeCLI, thecodexCLI, or both, and sign in withclaude loginorcodex login. ManyAgents uses whatever is already signed in on your Mac. It holds no API keys. - Open ManyAgents. If a CLI is missing or signed out, the first screen shows the command to run.
- Press ⌘N and choose a project folder. Type in the composer and press Return.
Requires macOS 14 or later.
Tabs
Projects are listed in the sidebar. Each project holds tabs, and each tab is one agent with its own conversation.
- ⌘T opens a tab in the current project. ⌘W closes it.
- ⌘` moves to the next project. ⇧⌘` moves to the next tab in the project.
- ⇧⌘L switches between card and list view.
- ⇧⌘R brings back the tabs from your last session.
- A tab can work in its own git worktree, so several tabs can edit one repository without clashing.
- Return sends a message. If the agent is mid-turn, it queues. ⌘Return sends it into the running turn now. ⇧Return adds a line.
- Paste or drop an image into the composer to attach it.
A tab's role decides which model it runs on: Standard, Worker, Thinker or Reviewer. Set it from the tab's menu. Models for each role are in Settings > Agents.
Keyboard shortcuts
Press ⌘/ in the app, or choose Help > Keyboard Shortcuts, for every shortcut.
The orchestrator
One tab per project can be the orchestrator. It can see the other tabs in the window, read what they said, start new ones from a brief, set their role and model, rename, compact and close them.
- Workers do scoped, mechanical work.
- Thinkers decide things and can hand work to workers.
- Reviewers read a change and report. They never edit.
The bell in the toolbar (⇧⌘A) lists everything waiting on you: questions, permission requests, finished work.
Preview
⇧⌘P opens the preview panel beside the conversation. Agents can open a page there, read it, click and fill fields, so you watch the same page they work on. You can also type a URL yourself, or open a PDF to fill a form.
Pages keep your cookies, so you sign in once. Agents only sign in to local development apps with credentials from the project. For anything else they ask you to sign in.
iPhone companion
The iPhone app shows your tabs, lets you answer questions and approve requests, and lets you message your agents.
- On your Mac, open Settings > Phone and turn on Phone access.
- Choose Pair iPhone and scan the code with the ManyAgents app on your iPhone.
Your Mac stays the one running the agents. It must be awake and online for the phone to reach it. Session > Keep This Mac Awake stops it sleeping while agents work.
Licensing and updates
ManyAgents is a perpetual license. A purchase includes 12 months of updates. After that, renewing is optional. The version you have keeps working either way, and you keep any version released during your update period.
Manage your license under Settings > License & Updates. Check for updates from the ManyAgents menu. Past versions are on the releases page.
Troubleshooting
A tab says the CLI is missing or signed out. Run claude login or codex login in Terminal, then reopen the tab. ManyAgents looks on your PATH and in /opt/homebrew/bin, /usr/local/bin, ~/.claude/local, ~/.bun/bin and ~/.npm-global/bin.
A model isn't available. Your account may not include it. The tab falls back to the CLI default. Pick another in Settings > Agents.
Agents are waiting and nothing runs. There is a cap on how many agents run at once, and it drops as your plan's usage fills. Wait for a slot, or raise "Tabs running at once" in Settings > Agents.
The iPhone can't reach my Mac. Check the Mac is awake and online and Phone access is on. If it still fails, pair again from Settings > Phone.
Agents run commands without asking. That is the default, so a board of agents can work unattended. To have new tabs ask first, turn on "Ask before agents run commands or edit files" in Settings > Agents.
